CASA big weekend May 19-20-21

Friday evening the all-CASA show in our Gallery will open 5:30-7:30 with many of the artists there to chat about their art. It's going to be an interesting show; several CASA artists are moving in new directions, and all are presenting relatively receont work, so there will be surprises. The show will also be open for viewing Saturday 1-4, Sunday 2-4, and in succeeding weeks mostly by appointment. The Gallery is also known as Room 208 in the CUMC Annex, 130 S. Sheldon, Ames. The Gallery is accessible; there is a ramp to the NW door of the building.

Saturday, May 20, Dot Prater is offering an eraser stamp carving mini-workshop at CASA 9AM-Noon.
Eraser Stamp-ede Mini-Workshop
Cost: $40 (includes all supplies)

The use of hand carved stamps in art works is millennia old. We will take a short cut through this laborious process and create stamps made in a morning and applied in endless ways. These simple stamps yield surpisingly sophisticated results, as evidenced in the St. John's Bible Project exhibited recently at the Joslyn Museum in Omaha, NB. Applications for hand made stamps can range from pottery surface design, bas relief clay tiles and plaster mold-making to paper collage, calligraphy, book arts, and fabric design.

Enjoy learning user-friendly design methods and carving one-of a-kind eraser stamps for your own personal use on clay, paper, and fabric. We will test our stamps on a variety of supports with a variety of media.

On Sunday, May 21, there will be a pottery sale in Room 202 (also H/C accessible) from noon - 4. There are some very interesting items coming out of our kilns these days, and quite a variety of sizes and styles.

Sunday there will also be a pit-firing east of the building, weather permitting. The construction will start at 11 AM, the fire will be lit at 12, and the pieces should be ready to pull out and admire around 4PM.
